Police have released more images of a man who may be able to assist in the investigation into the serious assault of an infant at a park in Stones Corner, Brisbane on Tuesday.

Detectives have been told a 9-month-old baby boy was with family at Hanlon Park around midday, when a man not known to the group approached them and poured a hot coffee onto the child.

Paramedics were called to the scene and treated the baby for facial and arm burns before he was rushed to hospital for surgery on the non-life threatening injuries.

His condition has been described as serious.

The man, pictured, is described as around 30 to 40-years-old, of a proportionate build, with tanned skin.

He was wearing a black hat, glasses, a shirt and shorts.

A friend of the baby’s mother and witness Zara Mazza spoke to Channel 10’s The Project yesterday.

“Essentially me and two of my other friends were wanting to go out for a little picnic date with our boys,” she told the hosts.

“I was playing with my son with a toy and as I’ve looked up, I’ve looked over to her son and I’ve seen … this man was standing above him, behind him, and poured a Thermos of hot coffee over him. He just started screaming.”

Ms Mazzo said she tried to chase the man but she wasn’t able to catch up to him.

“Essentially all I could hear was his mum screaming that it’s hot. ‘It’s hot, it’s hot coffee’, so I ran back and as I ran back picked up my water bottle and dumped it over him,” she said.

The Child Protection and Investigation Unit are appealing for anyone who has further information in relation to this matter to contact Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
