The two prospective Premiers are going head to head in their first debate on Channel Nine tonight with both answering questions from journalists.

David Crisafulli says Queensland needs a fresh start and has centred his campaign around stamping out youth crime, boosting health, improving housing and easing cost of living pressures.

He says crime is out of control, ambulance ramping is at record highs, housing shortages are driving up rents and the cost of living is rising faster than the rest of Australia.

The LNP say total crime is up 27%, car theft is up 101%, break-ins are up 44%, assaults are up 198%, there are 1,147 fewer police than Labor promised at the last election and there were 289,657 crime victims reported last year.

“The LNP will restore safety where you live through “Adult Crime, Adult Time”, gold standard early intervention and effective rehabilitation,” Mr Crisafulli said.

“After 10 years of failure, time’s up for Labor Queenslanders are demanding change and the LNP stands ready to deliver.”

While Steven Miles has been promoting his government’s 50-cent public fare policy which the LNP has also pledged to continue.

Mr Miles has also cut car registration fees and power bills.

Labor is vying for a fourth term in government but is facing a tough battle from the LNP, particularly in regional Queensland.

Labor has won 11 of the last 12 Queensland elections and has been in power in the sunshine state for almost a decade.

Steven Miles took over in December when Anastacia Palaszczuk resigned.

David Crisafulli became leader of the LNP in 2020 when Palaszczuk defeated Deb Frecklington.

The government is officially in caretaker mode with voters heading to the polls on October 26.
