Disaster struck on a recent visit to Iceland. I was on a five-day horse riding trek and, as it turned out, I hadn’t packed a thick enough coat. In the end, I had to borrow a jacket from a more well-prepared fellow traveller to keep me warm – a rookie error. It was a lesson learned, so when I got the invite to head to the French Alps for a weekend in the snow, I knew it was time to invest in a proper decently-insulated coat.
