Soon after mixed-media artist Dana Kawano’s husband John Dunham had sold his Menlo Park tech startup, Caw Networks, back in 2003, the couple set out to build their dream home. Intent on living in a San Francisco residence with an art studio, they bought a small lot with a warehouse on it for $600,000 and then worked with noted Bay Area restaurant architect Olle Lundberg to create a towering live-work space on a quiet side street in the bustling South of Market District.
