Yesterday’s mass shooting at a high school in Canada came as the federal government was overhauling the nation’s gun control laws.

At least nine people were killed and a further 25 injured in the attack at Tumbler Ridge, in the Canadian Rockies more than 1000km north-east of Vancouver.
