Push for Tasmanian reform on court character references | The Examiner

In Tasmania, the court must not take an offender’s good character or lack of prior convictions into account as a mitigating factor if it is satisfied that the offender’s reputation helped them gain access to the victim, or because the lack of a criminal record helped them commit the offence.
