Cleansed review: A front row seat to the most controversial night in theatre

Enduring the most in Cleansed is Carl. He is one of six inmates (students? patients?) at ‘an institution designed to rid society of undesirables’, punished for any deviation from social norms of sex or identity. Described by Kane as a University, in the hands of Set Designer Madeleine Girling, it has become a Saw bathroom of an asylum, linoleum floors stained with various bodily fluids, and fluorescent lights over gurney beds that witness a multitude of graphic assaults.
