Tuxedo Park was founded in 1886 by tobacco magnate Pierre Lorillard, who developed the land around Tuxedo Lake as a private hunting preserve for his circle of friends. The gated Orange County enclave later became a residential community known for its grand mansions and notable residents, including financier J.P. Morgan, designer Dorothy Draper, Wall Street tycoon-turned-physicist Alfred Loomis, EGOT entertainer Whoopi Goldberg, and Broadway star Sutton Foster.
