PM Morrison spruiks clean energy future in pre-election blitz in the Hunter

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has visited New South Wales' Hunter region in a pre-election blitz to spruik his clean energy vision for Australia. 

The Hunter region - in which the majority of its residents are employed through coal mining - is shaping up as a key battleground at the federal election. 

Mr Morrison hopes the government's net zero plan will help diversify industry in the region with $1.5 million to be set aside for a study into a potential hydrogen hub at the Port of Newcastle.

"Our plans to move to a low emissions future very much has the Hunter at the very centre of our thinking," Mr Morrison said.
