Amendments to Victoria’s pandemic bill are ‘fundamentally weak’

The amendments to the Andrews government's pandemic powers bill are “fundamentally weak,” according to Liberal MP David Davis.

It comes after Transport Matters MP Rod Barton revealed he would vote in favour of the legislation after the government agreed to six amendments to the bill.

“The flaws in the bill are not fixed, parliament should have the say if there's to be an extension of states of emergency or pandemic powers,” Mr Davis told Sky News host Cory Bernardi.

“A declaration can be made, I think that would be reasonable, but it can’t be extended endlessly without parliament agreeing – that's what we would say.

“But ... those amendments that the government has now agreed with Mr Barton, don’t have those amendments.”
