State records 2501 new COVID-19 cases, calls for restrictions grow

New South Wales has recorded 2501 new COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours to 8pm yesterday, breaking its streak of daily records, as calls grow for renewed restrictions in the lead-up to Christmas.

No deaths have been reported, and there are 33 people in intensive care – a slight uptick.
